I'm taking a course in solid state devices and I needed the sixth edition but my professor said a fifth edition would do fine. The price difference was significant so I looked for the fifth edition. I received the book on time, it was in great condition and I'm extremely satisfied with it.

I have read up to chapter 3 and I am confused. This book could have some answers to the problems so I could verify that I understand the concepts that have been so loosely conveyed to me in the text.

Streetman wrote this book as an assistant professor almost 40 years ago at the rise of the industry. He and his former student (a professor at UT Austin) have continually updated this book into its sixth edition. With so many revisions and accolades, you can be quite confident that this book will serve as a solid text for learning about the operation and fabrication of traditional and modern semiconductor devices.
I've read this book twice through in detail along with Pierret's Semiconductor Device Fundamentals, parts of S. Sze's book, and many other books that cover semiconductor physics. For an undergraduate learning the material for the first time, I HIGHLY recommend reading Pierret's book instead, with this book for more detail on modern devices and additional information on basic topics. Pierret holds your hand as he walks you through the material, explaining many details and limiting cases for basic material...Streetman doesn't quite do that. Pierret also puts some emphasis on computational solutions and graphing via MATLAB, which I think is very useful for learning and necessary in more advanced works.
Streetman excels in mentioning and explaining many unconventional effects and advanced devices, as well as talking about integrated circuits. In addition, Streeman spends many sections on fabrication techniques and device processing. He also includes some nice curves, material properties, and useful equations placed in known areas of the book (front/back cover, appendix, etc...), which are very useful for quick reference. Clearly, this book is better for an advanced reader, but I did appreciate some of Streetman's explanations (especially for the operation of a BJT) and the overall progression of the sections, which are very useful for a first-time reader. For an even more advanced text, one should consult Simon Sze's text.
In conclusion, this is an excellent text and should be read by those who plan to stay in the field. It is perfectly fine for a first-time learner, but is better the second time around. I give it a 4/5 instead of 5/5 because I feel introductory books need to grind out the basics extensively, which Pierret does a better job of.

I would recommend this book for those upper-level undergraduates and graduate students who are studying this field of solid state electronics. I was familiar the Streetman's 3rd edition many years ago and this latest edition is dramatically expanded and improved. Considering how quickly technology develops, this book is reasonably current. There's a good amount of material on III-V semiconductors. One strong point of the this book is the large number of practice problems and a self-quiz at the end of each chapter. The problems are not simple but require some effort. There were a couple sections where the wording was a little confusing at first reading but this is minor.

About Author :
David Halliday is associated with the University of Pittsburgh as Professor Emeritus. As department chair in 1960, he and Robert Resnick collaborated on Physics for Students of Science and Engineering and then on Fundamentals of Physics.
Robert Resnick is professor emeritus at Rensselaer and the former Edward P. Hamilton Distinguished Professor of Science Education, 1974-93. Together with his co-author David Halliday, he revolutionized physics education with their now famous textbook on general physics, still one of the most highly regarded texts in the field today.
Jearl Walker, professor of physics at Cleveland State University, received his BS in physics from MIT in 1967 and his PhD in physics from University of Maryland in 1973. His book The Flying Circus of Physics was published 30 years ago, has been translated into at least 10 languages, and is still being sold world wide. For 16 years he toured his Flying Circus talk throughout the U.S. and Canada, introducing such physics stunts as the bed-of-nails demonstration and the walking-on-hot-coals demonstration to countless physics teachers, who then proceeded to hurt themselves when they repeated the stunts in their own classrooms. These talks led to his PBS television show Kinetic Karnival which ran nationally for years and which earned an Emmy.

RAR ఫైళ్లు ఓపెన్ అవడం లేదా??
ఉబుంటు ఇన్ స్టాల్ చేసిన తర్వాత సహజంగా అందరూ ఎదుర్కొనే సమస్య RAR ఫైళ్లు ఓపెన్ అవకపోవడం. దీనికిగాను unrar అనే చిన్న ప్రోగ్రాముని ఇన్ స్టాల్ చేసుకోవలసి ఉంటుంది. Applications>Accessories>Terminalని ఓపెన్ చేసి sudo apt-get install unrar అనే కమాండ్ ని టైప్ చేసి ఎంటర్ కొట్టిన వెంటనే పాస్వర్డ్ తెలుపమని అడుగుతుంది. మీ పాస్వర్డ్ ఎంటర్ చెయ్యండి. దాంతో unrar ప్రోగ్రాం ఇన్ స్టాల్ చేయబడుతుంది.
Youtube వీడియోలు చూడలేకపోతుంటే....
ఉబుంటులో ఉండే ఫైర్ ఫాక్స్ బ్రౌజర్ ద్వారా నెట్ ని బ్రౌజ్ చేస్తున్నప్పుడు Youtube వంటి సైట్లలోని ఫ్లాష్ వీడియోలు, ఇతర సైట్లలోని ఫ్లాష్ ఏనిమేషన్లు వంటివి ఏమీ ప్లే అవకుండా Missing plugin అనే మెసేజ్ పైన కనిపిస్తున్నట్లయితే Install అనే బటన్ ని క్లిక్ చేయండి. వెంటనే వెబ్ సైట్లలోని ఫ్లాష్ ఫైళ్లని ప్లే చెయ్యగలిగే అందుబాటులో ఉన్న వేర్వేరు ప్లగిన్ల వివరాలు వెదుకబడి చూపిస్తుంది. అందులో ఏదైనా ఇన్ స్టాల్ చేసుకోవచ్చు. ఇక ఫ్లాష్ వీడియోలు, ఇతర ఫ్లాష్ కంటెంట్ మొత్తం వచ్చేస్తుంది.
మరి మీకు నచ్చిన విండోస్ అప్లికేషన్లు కావాలంటే...?
ఉబుంటు కోసం దాదాపు అన్ని పనులను చేసిపెట్టే ఉచిత అప్లికేషన్ ప్రోగ్రాములు Package Manager లేదా Add/Remove ద్వారా అందుబాటులో ఉంటాయి. ఒకవేళ వాటిలో మీకు కావలసిన సాఫ్ట్ వేర్ దొరక్క మీరు కోరుకున్న పనిని చేసిపెట్టే విండోస్ అప్లికేషన్ మాత్రం మీ వద్ద రెడీగా ఉన్నట్లయితే దాన్ని ఉబుంటులో ఇన్ స్టాల్ చేసుకుని వాడుకునే మార్గమొకటి ఉంది.
విండోస్ EXE సెటప్ ఫైళ్లని ఉబుంటులో ఇన్ స్టాల్ చేసుకోవచ్చంటే ఆశ్చర్యంగా ఉంది కదూ! అవును అది నిజమే! విండోస్ సాఫ్ట్ వేర్లని ఉబుంటులో ఇన్ స్టాల్ చేసుకోవడానికి Crossover Linux అనే ఒక సాఫ్ట్ వేర్, Wine అనే మరో సాఫ్ట్ వేర్ ఉపయోగపడతాయి. Crossover Linux అనేది కమర్షియల్ సాఫ్ట్ వేర్. ట్రయల్ వెర్షన్ మాత్రమే లభిస్తుంది. అయినా అది Wine తో పోలిస్తే ఉబుంటుకి శుద్ధ దండగ. సో. విండోస్ అప్లికేషన్లని మీ ఉబుంటులో ఇన్ స్టాల్ చేసుకోవడానికి Wine ని వాడుకుందాం. ఈ ప్రోగ్రాం ని ఇన్ స్టాల్ చేశాక ఇది తాత్కాలికంగా విండోస్ సెటప్ ఫైళ్లు రన్ కావడానికి ఓ emulating వాతావరణాన్ని కల్పించి విండోస్ అప్లికేషన్లని ఉబుంటులో ఇన్ స్టాల్ చేయిస్తుంది.
Wineని ఇన్ స్టాల్ చేసుకోవడం ఇలాగన్నమాట...
స్టెప్ 1 : ఉబుంటులో System మెనూలో ఉండే Administrations>Software Sources అనే ఆప్షన్ ని క్లిక్ చేసి వెంటనే ప్రత్యక్షమయ్యే డైలాగ్ బాక్స్ లో Third Party Software అనే విభాగంలోకి వెళ్లి Add అనే బటన్ ని క్లిక్ చేసి తర్వాత వచ్చే బాక్స్ లో ఈ క్రింది లైన్ ని ఉన్నది ఉన్నట్టు టైప్ చేయండి.

స్టెప్ 3 : ఇపుడు Applications మెనూలోని Add/Remove అనే ఆప్షన్ ని క్లిక్ చెసిన వెంటనే పాకేజ్ డేటా ఆటోమేటిక్ గా అప్ డేట్ చెయ్యబడుతుంది. ఆ తర్వాత Add/Remove Applications విండోలోని Search అనే బాక్స్ లో wine అని టైప్ చేసి అది చూపించబడగానే దాన్ని టిక్ చెసి Apply Changes కొట్టండి. దీంతో wine డౌన్లోడ్ చెయ్యబడుతుంది. ఆ తర్వాత అది Applications మెనూలో Wine పేరిట సబ్ ఫోల్డర్ గా వచ్చేస్తుంది. ఇక విండోస్ అప్లికేషన్లు ఇన్ స్టాల్ చేసుకోవచ్చు...
ఉబుంటుతో పాటు ఏయే సాఫ్ట్ వేర్లు వస్తాయి?
మనం రెగ్యులర్గా కంప్యూటర్ని వాడడానికి అవసరం అయిన అన్ని ఉచిత సాఫ్ట్ వేర్లు ఉబుంటుతోపాటు ఆటోమేటిక్గా ఇన్స్టాల్ అయి రెడీగా ఉంటాయి. Applications మెనూలోకి వెళ్లి చూస్తే Accessories, Games, Graphics, Internet వంటి వివిధ మెనూల్లో అవి కనిపిస్తుంటాయి. ఉదా.కు... Open Office Word, Spreadsheet, Presentation, నెట్ బ్రౌజింగ్ కి Firefox, Yahoo messenger, Gtalk లకు ప్రత్యామ్నాయంగా Pidgin Internet Messenger, సిడి, డివిడి రైటింగ్ కి Brasero Disc Burner అనే ప్రోగ్రాం ఇలా వివిధ అవసరాలకు పలు ప్రోగ్రాములు రెడీగా ఉంటాయి.
కొత్త సాఫ్ట్ వేర్లను ఇన్స్టాల్ చేసుకోవాలంటే ఎలా??
ఉబుంటు కోసం ఏయే అప్లికేషన్లు అందుబాటులో ఉన్నాయో చూడాలంటే చక్కని ప్రదేశం Applications మెనూలో ఉండే Add/REmove అనే ఆప్షన్, దాన్ని క్లిక్ చేసిన వెంటనే మొదటిసారి Checking installed and available application అనే మెసేజ్ వచ్చి ప్రస్తుతం మీ సిస్టం లో ఉన్న ప్యాకేజీ వివరాల కన్నా అప్డేటెడ్ ప్యాకేజీలు ఏమైనా నెట్లో అందుబాటులో ఉన్నాయేమో తనిఖీ చెయ్యబడి లేటెస్ట్ ప్యాకేజీ సమాచారం ఆటోమేటిక్ గా డౌన్లోడ్ చేయ్యబడుతుంది.
సాఫ్ట్ వేర్ల మూలంగా సమస్యలు తలెత్తకుండా....
ఉబుంటు ప్రాజెక్ట్ ని Canonical అనే సంస్థ నిర్వహిస్తుంది. మనం విండోస్ లో వెనకా ముందూ ఆలోచించకుండా ఏ సాఫ్ట్ వేర్ని బడితే దాన్ని అందులో వైరస్ ఉందో, స్పైవెర్ ఏమైనా ఉందేమోనన్న ఆలోచన అన్నది కూడా లెక్క చెయకుండా ఇన్స్టాల్ చేసి చేజేతులా సమస్యలు తెచ్చుకుంటూ ఉంటాం కదా!! లినక్స్ విషయంలో ఇలాంటి సమస్యలు తలెత్తకుండా Canonical సంస్థ ఎప్పటికప్పుడు ఉబుంటుతో సమస్య లేకుండ పనిచేసే సెక్యూర్డ్ అప్లికేషన్ ప్రోగ్రాములను గుర్తించి తన సాఫ్ట్ వేర్ ప్యాకేజీ డేటాబేస్ ని అప్డేట్ చేస్తుంటుంది. సో మనం Ubuntu సిడి తయారు చెయ్యబడిన సమయంలో ప్యాకేజీ డేటాబేస్ లో లేని కొత్త సాఫ్ట్ వేర్ వివరాలను Add/Remove ఆప్షన్ అప్డేట్ చేసుకుంటుంది. ఇలా ప్యాకేజీ సమాచారం అప్డేట్ చెయ్యబడిన తర్వాత Add/Remove డైలాగ్ బాక్సులో Show వద్ద All available applications అనే ఆప్షన్ ని సెలెక్ట్ చేసుకుని Search అనే బాక్స్ లో మీరు వెదుకుతున్న సాఫ్ట్ వేర్ కీవర్డ్ ని టైప్ చేసి వెదకండి. మీకు కావలసిన సాఫ్ట్ వేర్ దొరికిన తర్వాత దాని ఎదురు టిక్ పెట్టి Apply Changes అనే ఆప్షన్ క్లిక్ చేసి వెంటనే వచ్చే కన్ఫర్మేషన్ బాక్స్ లో Apply అనే బటన్ ని క్లిక్ చేస్తే మీ పాస్వర్డ్ ని టైప్ చెయ్యమని కోరుతుంది. పాస్వర్డ్ ని టైప్ చెయ్యగానే Downloading Package Files అనే ఆప్షన్ మెసేజ్ వచ్చి డౌన్లోడ్ పూర్తయ్యాక ఆ సాఫ్ట్ వేర్ ఇన్స్టాల్ చెయ్యబడుతుంది.. దాంతో ఆ కొత్త సాఫ్ట్ వేర్ ఇకపై Applications మెనూలో వస్తుంది.
Terminal నుండి ప్యాకేజీలను ఇన్స్టాల్ చెయ్యడం....
కమాండ్లు గుర్తుపెట్టుకోలేని సాధారణ యూజర్లని దృష్టిలో ఉంచుకుని ఉబుంటు పూర్తిస్థాయిలో గ్రాఫికల్ గా తీర్చిదిద్దబడింది గాని మనం GUI లో చేసే ప్రతి పనిని బ్యాక్ గ్రౌండ్లో కమాండ్ లైన్ ద్వారా ఎక్జిక్యూట్ చెయ్యబడుతుంది. కమాండ్లని ఎక్జిక్యూట్ చెయ్యడానికి ఉబుంటులో Applications > Accessories లో Terminal అనే ప్రోగ్రాం ఉంటుంది. క్లుప్తంగా చెప్పాలంటే ఈ టెర్మినల్ ద్వారా ఉబుంటులో ఏ పనైనా చక్కబెట్టుకోవచ్చు
తెలియవలసిందల్లా ఏ పనికి ఏ కమాండ్ ని వాడాలన్నది. ఇక టెర్మినల్ ద్వారా ఏదైనా కమాండ్ ని వాడాలంటే ఆ కమాండ్ కి ముందు sudo అనే పదాన్ని చేర్చి మనం రూట్ యూజర్ గా గుర్తింపు పొందితేనే ఆ కమాండ్ ఎగ్జిక్యూట్ అవుతుంది. ఇకపోతే ఏదైనా ప్యాకేజీని టెర్మినల్ ద్వారా ఇన్ స్టాల్ చెయ్యాలంటే apt-get-install<ఇక్కడ ప్యాకేజీ పేరు> మాదిరిగా కమాండ్ వాడాలి. పైన ప్రతీ కమాండ్ కి ముందు sudo అని చేర్చాలని చెప్పుకున్నాం కాబట్టి ubuntu - desktop అనే ప్యాకేజీని ఇన్ స్టాల్ చెయ్యాలంటే కమాండ్ ఇలా వాడాలి.
sudo-apt-get install ubuntu-desktop ఇలా టైప్ చేసి ఎంటర్ కొట్టిన వెంటనే మన పాస్ వర్డ్ అడుగుతుంది . టైప్ చేస్తే ఇన్స్టలేషన్ జరుగుతుంది.
వేర్వేరు చోట్ల నుండి ఇన్ స్టాల్ చేసేటప్పుడు సమస్య లేకుండా...
Ubuntuలో Applications>Add/Remove ద్వారా గానీ, పైన చెప్పుకున్న Terminal ద్వారా గాని లేదా Systemమెనూలోని Administration>Synaptic Package Manager ద్వారా గానీ అప్లికేషన్లని ఇన్ స్టాల్ చేసుకోవచ్చు. అయితే ఒక చోట ఏదైనా టూల్ ఇన్స్టాల్ అవుతుండగా ఈ మూడింటిలో వేరే చోటి నుండి వేరే టూల్ని దేన్నయినా ఇన్ స్టాల్ చెయ్యడానికి వీలుపడదు. అలా పలు చోట్ల ట్రై చేస్తుంటే Unable to lock the download directory లేదా Unable to exclusive lock మాదిరిగా ఎర్రర్ మెసేజ్ వస్తుంది. అలాంటప్పుడు ఒకచోట ఇన్స్టలేషన్ పూర్తయిన తర్వాతే ప్రయత్నించాలి...
ఇందాకన నుంచీ సోర్స్ కోడ్ లో ఏమి మార్పులు చెయ్యాలా అని బుర్ర బద్దలు కొట్టుకుంటుంటే ఒక మెయిలొచ్చింది. దానిచివరెక్కడో... blackle.com అని ఉంది. అప్పుడు గుర్తుకొచ్చింది నాకు బ్లాకిల్ గురించి. నేను చెప్పను కానీ, ఒకసారి దాన్ని గురించి ఏమి చెప్పుకున్నారో చదివి, మీకు నచ్చితే కనీసం రోజులో ఒక్కసారైనా గూగులుపయోగించే బదులు దాన్ని వాడండి. కాస్త పవర్ సేవ్ చేయండి.
ఏళ్ల తరబడి నుంఢి వింఢోస్ కి అలవాటు పడిపోయిన ప్రాణాలకు లినక్స్ కి మారాలన్న ఆలోచనే రుచించదు. కొంతమంది మహానుభావులు ఉన్నారు. Windows XP నుండి Vista కి మారటమంటేనే ‘అంతా కొత్తకొత్తగా ఉంది. ఏ ఆప్షన్లు ఎక్కడున్నాయో అర్ధం కావట్లేదు’ అంటూ పెదవి విరుస్తుంటారు. అంటే కొత్త విషయాలు నేర్చుకోవాలంటేనే అస్సలు ఒంటికి పడదన్నమాట అలాంటివారు ఒక పక్క విండోస్ ని వాడుతూనే మరో పక్క Linux ని ప్రయత్నించమంటేనే ఎందుకొచ్చిన గోల అని పెడచెవిన పెడుతుంటారు. నిజమే... “విండోస్ బ్రహ్మాండంగా పనిచేస్తుంటే లినక్స్ కి ఎందుకు మారాలి?” కారణం మనం వాడుతున్న విండోస్ కొంత ధర పెట్టి అమ్మబడే కమర్షియల్ ఆపరేటింగ్ సిస్టమ్. Windows Vista Home Basic తీసుకుంటే 3,500 వరకూ ధర పలుకుతుంది. కానీ మనం అంత ధరపెట్టి కొనట్లేదు. మార్కెట్లో 50, 100 రూపాయలకు దొరికే పైరేటెడ్ విండోస్ సిడిలు కొని వాడుతున్నాం. లేదా మీకు కంప్యూటర్ అమ్మినవారు పనిలోపనిగా ఇలాంటి పైరేటెడ్ విండోస్ ఇన్ స్టాల్ చేసి ఇస్తుంటారు. అంటే మనం చట్టబద్ధంగా విండోస్ ని వాడట్లేదన్నమాట. ధర ఎక్కువగా ఉంది కాబట్టి విండోస్ ఒరిజినల్ ని కొనలేకపోతున్నాం అని అనుకునేవారు పూర్తి ఉచితంగా Open Source కింద లభించే Linux ని ఎందుకు ప్రయత్నించకూడదు? ఒక్కసారి ఆలోచించండి. ఉబుంటునే తీసుకుంటే అది పూర్తి ఉచితం. దానితో పాటు Open Office, Firefox వంటి పలు ఉచిత ప్రోగ్రాములూ, గేమ్ లూ ఉచితంగా లభిస్తుంటాయి. పూర్తిగా విండోస్ నుండి మారిపోమనట్లేదు. లినక్స్ ని వేరే పార్టిషన్లో ట్రై చేయండి. మీకు పూర్తిగా ఉచితంగా సౌకర్యంగా అన్పించినప్పుడు పూర్తిగా మారిపోవచ్చు.
ఉచితంగా డౌన్ లోడ్ చేసుకోండి.. లేదా తెప్పించుకోండి.
మీరు ఉబుంటుని డెస్క్ టాప్ ఎడిషన్ ని www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/ download అనే లింకునుండి లేటెస్ట్ Ubuntu 9.04 వెర్షన్ న డౌన్లోడ్ చేసుకోవచ్చు. ఇది 698.95MB సైజ్ లో ఒక ఖాళీ సిడిలో రైట్ చేసుకోగలిగే ISO ఫైల్ రూపంలో లభిస్తుంది. ఒకవేళ మీరు, మీ మిత్రులు కొంతమంది కలిసి ఉబుంటుని ట్రై చేద్దామనుకుంటే https://shipit.ubuntu.com అనే సైట్ లో రిజిస్టర్ చేసుకుని మీ వివరాలు ఇస్తే కొన్ని ఉబుంటు సిడిలు పూర్తి ఉచితంగా (పోస్టల్ ఛార్జీలు తీసుకోరు) మీకు పోస్టులో పంపించబడతాయి. మీకు ఎలా అనువుగా ఉంటే అలా చెయ్యవచ్చు. ఉబుంటుని డౌన్ లోడ్ చేసుకున్న తర్వాత ఆ ISO ఫైల్ ని Nero Burning ROM వంటి సిడిరైటింగ్ సాఫ్ట్ వేర్లతో సిడిలోకి రైట్ చేసుకోవచ్చు. ఇఫ్పుడు మీ ఉబుంటు సిడి వాడుకోవడానికి సిద్ధంగా ఉందన్నమాట.
మూడు రకాలుగా ఉబుంటుని మీ సిస్టమ్ లో వాడవచ్చు...
ప్రస్తుతం మీరు వాడుతున్న Windows ఆపరేటింగ్ సిస్టమ్ కి ఎలాంటి నష్టం జరగకుండా, మీ హార్డ్ డిస్క్ లోని డేటా సురక్షితంగా ఉంటూనే ఉబుంటుని మూడు పద్ధతుల్లో వాడుకోవచ్చు. అవి..
1. Live CD ద్వారా ఇన్ స్టాల్ చేసుకోవడం
2. Windows లోపల ఉండగానే ఇన్ స్టలేషన్ ప్రారంభించడం
3. సిడి నుండి బూట్ అయి ఖాళీగా ఉన్న ఒక హార్డ్ డిస్క పార్టిషన్లోకి ఇన్ స్టాల్ చెయ్యడం..
వీటిగురించి వివరంగా చూద్దాం...
1. Live CD ద్వారా ఉబుంటుని ప్రయత్నించడం
లినక్స్ సిడిని మీ సిడిరామ్ డ్రైవ్ లో పెట్టి సిస్టమ్ ని ఆన్ చేస్తే వచ్చే Installer boot menuలో Try Ubuntu without any change అనే ఆప్షన్ ని కీబోర్డ్ Up/down arrowలో సెలెక్ట్ చేసుకుని ఎంటర్ కొట్టండి. దీంతో Linux డీఫాల్ట్ యూజర్ నేమ్ తో సిడినుండే అప్పటికప్పుడు మెమరీలోకి లోడ్ అవుతుంది. ఇలా నేరుగా సిడినుండే ఉబుంటులోని అన్ని ప్రోగ్రాములు వాడుకోవచ్చు. కేవలం ఉబుంటు ఎలా ఉంటుందో అవగాహనకు రావడం కోసమే ఇలా Live CD పద్ధతిని అనుసరించండి. Live CD తో బూట్ అయినప్పుడు ఉబుంటుని పూర్తి స్ధాయిలో ఇన్ స్టాల్ చేసుకోవాలంటే డెస్క్ టాప్ పై కన్పిస్తున్న Install అనే ఐకాన్ ని క్లిక్ చేయండి. మీరు పూర్తిస్ధాయిలో ఉబుంటుని ఇన్ స్టాల్ చేసుకోవాలంటే మాత్రం ఇప్పుడు చెప్పబోయే పద్ధతులు వాడండి.
2. Win లో ఉండగా ఉబుంటు ఇన్ స్టలేషన్ మొదలెట్టడం
విండోస్ XP/Vista లో మీరు పనిచేస్తుండగా Ubuntu సెటప్ సిడిని మీ సిడి/డివిడి డ్రైవ్ లో పెట్టండి. అది Auto run అవుతుంది. Auto play ఆప్షన్లలో Run wubi.exe ని టిక్ చేయండి. వెంటనే వచ్చే విండోలో Install inside Windows అనే ఆప్షన్ ని క్లిక్ చేయండి. ఈ పద్ధతిలో మనం హార్డ్ డిస్క్ లో ఎక్కువ ఖాళీస్ధలం ఉన్న పార్టిషన్లో కొంత స్పేస్ ను ఉబుంటు కోసం కేటాయించి ఇన్ స్టాల్ చేయబోతున్నామన్నమాట. ఉదా.కు.. నా దగ్గర E డ్రైవ్ మొత్తం కెపాసిటి 100GB ఉంది. అందుకే ఇప్పటివరకూ కేవలం 20GB వాడబడి 80GN ఖాళీగా ఉన్నట్లయితే ఉబుంటుకి కేటాయించవచ్చు. కాని ఆ డ్రైవ్ లో ఎంత స్ధలం ఉబుంటుకి కేటాయించబడాలో కూడా చెప్పాలి కదా. Installation Size అనే ఆప్షన్ వద్ద మనం ఎంత GB ఉబుంటుకి వాడబడాలో తెలియజేయాలి. కనీసం 8 GB ఉబుంటుకి కేటాయించండి. ఇక చివరిగా Username, Password ల వద్ద మీరు ఉబుంటులోకి లాగిన్ కావాలంటే ఏ అడ్మినిస్ట్రేటర్ యూజర్ నేమ్, పాస్ వర్డ్ లను వాడాలో వాటిని టైప్ చేసి చివరగా Install అనే బటన్ ని క్లిక్ చేయండి. కొన్ని ఫైళ్లు కాపీ అయి సిస్టమ్ ని రీస్టార్ట్ చెయ్యమని అడుగుతుంది. ఆ తర్వాత ఇన్ స్టలేషన్ మొదలవుతుంది.
3. పూర్తి పార్టిషన్ లో ఉబుంటుని ఇన్ స్టాల్ చేయడం
ఒకవేళ మీ హార్డ్ డిస్క్ లో D, E, F, G…. వంటి డ్రైవ్ లలో ఏదైనా పూర్తి ఖాళీగా ఉంఢి (అస్సలేమీ డేటా ఉండకూడదు) అందులో ఉబుంటు ఇన్ స్టాల్ చేసుకోదలుచుకుంటే (ప్రస్తుతం వాడుతున్న XP కి నష్టమేమీ ఉండదు. డ్యూయల్ బూటింగ్ అన్నమాట) సిడిరామ్ డ్రైవ్ లో ఉబుంటు సెటప్ సిడిని ఇన్ సర్ట్ చేసి బూట్ మెనూలో Install Ubuntu అనే ఆప్షన్ ఎంచుకోండి. వెంటనే ఇన్ స్టలేషన్ ప్రారంభమవుతుంది.
